McKenzie Institute Canada MDT Credentialling Scholarship
Starting in 2025, the Robin McKenzie Institute Canada will begin awarding two educational scholarships annually. The scholarship will be awarded to two clinicians or final year PT or DC Students demonstrating an interest in furthering their knowledge of the McKenzie Method ® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®. Before applying for the scholarship, please carefully review all the information outlined below, including the admissibility criteria, application process, and terms of acceptance.
PURPOSE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
- To provide financial support to an eligible clinician or student demonstrating an eagerness to follow evidence-based practices.
- To build the growing network of Certified MDT clinicians in Canada, appropriately trained by the McKenzie Institute to utilize the McKenzie Method ® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®.
- To enhance accessibility to Certified MDT clinicians to the Canadian population.
- To support the McKenzie Institute’s mission to provide all clinicians managing patients with MSK disorders, with the knowledge of a comprehensive diagnostic system and appropriate treatment strategies to effectively treat and empower patients.
- To foster awareness of the benefits of the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) system.

ADMISSIBILITY CRITERIA:
- The applicant must be a currently licensed professional or final year PT or DC Student, who is eligible to credential according to the MICanada eligibility policy, who demonstrates an eagerness to help patients using evidence-based practices and active therapy strategies.
- Applicable for clinicians or final year PT or DC Students that previously demonstrated an interest in the McKenzie Method® by completing a minimum of a Part A course, and who demonstrate an eagerness to achieve certification in the McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT).
- Applicable for clinicians or PT or DC Students that have completed at minimum a Part A course and no more than two MDT courses. Acceptable course completion levels: Part A, or Parts A and B, or Parts A and C.
- The applicant must have attended a MDT course between the years of 2019 through 2025. Clinicians that took their course(s) outside of Canada must submit a McKenzie Institute certificate of completion to MICanada before applying.
- PT or DC Students awarded the scholarship will be required to provide proof of licensing after graduation before attending Part B.
- Candidates who are family members or staff members of the MICanada Board, MICanada Administration Staff, MII Teaching Faculty, or the McKenzie Institute Canada MDT Credentialling Scholarship Committee, are not eligible for participation.
Qualifying Criteria: The successful applicants are selected using predetermined areas of assessment including: Part A Self-test, an online application, and information outlined in their submitted documents.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION TERMS OF ACCEPTANCE:
- The Applicant must complete Step 1 of the application process by 11:59pm on September 15th. Late submissions will not be considered.
- The Applicant must complete Step 2 of the application process by 11:59pm on September 30th. Late submissions will not be considered.
- The scholarship benefits are applicable for in-person or online courses organized by McKenzie Institute Canada. The scholarship benefits are not valid on courses offered by other McKenzie Institute International branches.
- This educational scholarship does not include any financial assistance for travel or other expenses associated with attending a course.
- Further discounts associated with the previous purchase of a Plus Plan will be calculated on and applied to the reduced fee amount.
- The successful candidate(s) will have 3 years from the date the Scholarship is awarded to complete Parts B through to Credentialling (4 parts). Exceptions may apply, as required the situation will be assessed on an individual basis.
- Applicant must have been a full-time Canadian permanent resident for a minimum of two (2) years prior to applying for the scholarship.
- The successful candidate must be agreeable to complete at least one knowledge transfer option offered by MICanada upon successful completion of the Credentialling Exam.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INITIAL STEPS:
- Step 1: Prior to 15SEP, login to the MICanada website and verify your MICanada profile reflects your correct information, then register for the Scholarship program using the APPLY NOW link below or via the Scholarship Registration page. Clinicians should include their place of practice information in their profiles. Students should note the university name and address in the work information section of their profiles. To update your profile, go to VIEW PROFILE (top right) after logging on to the MICanada website.
- Once you have registered for the scholarship, you will be directed to complete the Part A self-test. You will have a maximum of 15 days from the date of registration to complete the Part A self-test. Please don't register for the scholarship until you are ready to complete the self-test, as the 15-day deadline for completion will not be extended. If completed the self-test prior to registering for the scholarship, you will be required to take it again. The first submission made after registering for the scholarship, will be considered a final submission. After registering for the scholarship, only one completion of the self-test is possible. The pass mark is 75%.
- Upon completion of the self-test, you will receive your results and if successful, you will receive a further email within 72 hours, explaining how to proceed to Step 2 of the application process.
- Step 2 requires completion of an online application form and submission of the supporting material outlined below. The online application and all supporting material must be submitted by 11:59pm on 30SEP. Late submissions will not be considered.
- In the final review process, successful candidates may be asked to submit a cv or video response to a question posed by the MICanada Credentialling Scholarship Committee. Please see the "Review Process" section below for more details.
STEP 2: Supporting Information and Documents Required
Please have the following on hand and ready to submit before progressing to Step 2, the online application process. Deadline for submission is 11:59pm on 30SEP.
- Personal Letter of Interest, outlining professional goals and highlighting educational accomplishments of note.
- A letter of recommendation from professional colleague with direct experience working with, supervising or mentoring the candidate, and indicating how long they have known the candidate.
- Part A Self-test score
REVIEW and SELECTION PROCESS:
- Step 1: Initial registration through MICanada website, followed by completion of the Part A self-test. Completion of the Part A Self-Test is the initial qualifying step to the application process. It is necessary to achieve a pass mark of 75% to move on to the next stage of the application process. The test is open book but only one attempt will be permitted, and the results of that attempt will determine if the applicant can proceed to the next stage of the application process.
- Step 2: Upon successful completion of the Part A self-test the applicant(s) will gain access to the online scholarship application. Supporting documents can be uploaded through the application portal.
- Step 3: Scholarship Committee application review, evaluation, and final grading
- Step 4: Final review and selection completed by the MICanada Board of Directors
- Step 5: Candidates will be informed of the status of their scholarship application.
- The decision of the committee is final. Reasons for the final candidate selection remain strictly confidential.
- MICanada reserves the right not to award any scholarships in any given year.

Important Deadlines:
- 15SEP is the deadline for completing Step 1, the online registration process and Part A self-test.
- 30SEP is the deadline for completing Step 2, the online application and document submission process.
- Upon completion of the scholarship review process and final approval of the MICanada Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be advised in writing by 15DEC of the given year.
